A good team building training provider in Malaysia is one that is registered with HRD Corp, delivers the programme through certified trainers against written learning outcomes, and can produce the attendance and evaluation records your claim will be audited against. Anyone can run games; only a registered provider can make those games claimable. AFK Asia Group Team Expert is an HRD Corp (HRDF) claimable team-building and corporate training provider based in Melaka, delivering customised programmes nationwide to more than 100,000 participants to date.
This guide sets out the seven criteria to judge a provider on, how to verify a provider is genuinely HRD Corp registered, the documents a compliant provider should give you, and the warning signs that a “claimable” quote will not survive an audit.

Provider, organiser or company — what is the difference?
The three terms get used interchangeably, but they mean different things when a levy claim is involved. An event organiser handles logistics: venue, transport, food, games. A team building company designs and runs the experience. A training provider does both and is registered with HRD Corp to deliver it as accredited training, which is the only route to a valid claim. If you are comparing vendors more broadly, see our guide on how to choose a team building company in Malaysia and our list of team building organisers for corporate events.
7 criteria for choosing a team building training provider
1. HRD Corp registration you can verify
Ask for the provider’s HRD Corp registration and confirm the programme itself is a registered claimable course — provider registration and programme registration are two separate things. Our guide to the HRD Corp registered training provider process explains how to check.
2. Certified trainers, not just event crew
The person facilitating should be a certified trainer who can debrief the activity, not only run it. Ask who specifically will be on site on your day, and what their certification is. A strong provider names them before you sign.
3. Written learning outcomes
Every claimable programme needs stated outcomes — what participants will be able to do differently afterwards. If a proposal is only a timetable of games with no outcomes attached, it is a recreation package, not training.
4. A needs analysis before the design
A provider that sends an identical package to every client has not diagnosed anything. Look for a provider that asks what is actually going wrong in the team first. Our free Training Needs Analysis does this in a few minutes.
5. Safety and risk management
Outdoor and water-based activities need documented risk assessments, briefed safety staff and insurance. Ask to see the risk assessment for the specific activities in your proposal, not a generic policy.
6. A verifiable track record
Ask how many participants the provider has run programmes for, in your industry and at your group size. A provider used to 30-person workshops will struggle with 300 people, and vice versa.
7. Claim support included
Grant application, attendance records, evaluation forms and the post-programme report should be part of the service. If claim paperwork is your problem alone, the provider is not really a training provider. See the step-by-step HRD Corp claim guide.
Who it’s for, outcomes and formats
Who it’s for: HR managers, L&D leads and finance approvers who need the programme to be defensible as claimable training, not just a good day out.
Outcomes: a programme mapped to a real skill gap, a claim that survives audit, and documentation you can file without chasing the vendor afterwards.
Formats: in-house half day, full-day offsite, 2 days 1 night residential, or a modular series across a quarter. See our HRD Corp claimable training programmes for the full range.
Documents a compliant provider should give you
- A written proposal with learning outcomes and a timed run sheet
- Trainer profiles and certification for the facilitators on your day
- The HRD Corp programme reference for the course being claimed
- A risk assessment covering the specific activities booked
- Attendance sheets and participant evaluation forms
- A post-programme report you can attach to the claim
Warning signs to walk away from
Be cautious if a provider cannot name the trainer, will not put learning outcomes in writing, quotes a “100% claimable” figure without seeing your levy position, has no risk assessment for water or height activities, or sends the same package regardless of what you tell them about the team. Any one of these turns a claim into a problem later.

Frequently asked questions
What is a team building training provider?
A training provider designs and delivers team building as structured training with defined learning outcomes, certified trainers and proper documentation — and, in Malaysia, is registered with HRD Corp so employers can claim the cost against their levy. That is what separates a provider from an event organiser.
Is AFK Asia Group an HRD Corp claimable training provider?
Yes. AFK Asia Group Team Expert delivers HRD Corp (HRDF) claimable team-building and corporate training programmes, and supports employers with the grant application and post-programme documentation needed for the claim.
How do I check whether a provider is really HRD Corp registered?
Ask for the provider’s HRD Corp registration details and the programme reference for the specific course, then confirm both through your HRD Corp employer portal before you commit. Provider registration alone does not make every programme claimable.
Where does AFK Asia Group run programmes?
Nationwide. We are based in Melaka and regularly deliver in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Penang, Johor, Port Dickson, Janda Baik and across East Malaysia. See our venues by region.
How much does a claimable team building programme cost?
It depends on group size, duration and venue, and most employers recover a large share from their HRD Corp levy. Our team building cost guide explains what drives the price.
